There's an App for That! Shopping

Periodically I’ll introduce you to apps for your smart phone and iPad that will (a) make your life easier, (b) make working more fun, (c) save you money, (d) be entertaining, or (e) be any and all of the above.

Many of the links shown are to the web sites. Review information about the app, then download the app that’s appropriate for your needs and device.

Saving Money While Shopping
Your Choice!

Today’s selection includes ways to save you money, and since the price of gasoline is heading for the stratosphere (again), I thought the first app would be of particular interest.

 Gas Buddy
Find the cheapest gas on the go. In one click, locate gas stations near you and see their current gas prices. GasBuddy is comprised of a community of users working together to update gas prices and help everyone save on gas!

A mobile version of Amazon.com, where you can buy just about anything, and it's easy to use. Your Amazon.com shopping and wish lists are transferred automatically through the app’s ability to sync with the website. There are many other cool features about this app, so check it out.

It will soon be available for Android phones.

Groupon
This app uses the principles of economy of scale, and the user is the beneficiary because it uses group purchasing to help you get a price break. Download the app for your device and purchase deals directly from your phone.

Snap a picture of the cover of any book, DVD, CD, or video game and within seconds get a rating, description and links to Google, YouTube, Wikipedia, IMDb, Barnes & Noble and more. Use this app while shopping in a store to quickly find more information, compare prices, buy the product, or to remember to look at the product later.

Shop smarter. RedLaser searches for low online and local prices from hundreds of thousands of retailers. Features product results from Google (US & UK), TheFind, eBay, Milo.com and Half.com!

The GoodGuide app helps you find safe, healthy, and sustainable products while you shop. You can browse, search or simply scan a barcode to see detailed ratings for health, environment and social responsibility for more than 70,000 products and companies.

We’re all familiar with Consumer Reports and couldn’t imagine making a major purchase without first checking how they’ve rated a product, reviewed brand reliability, and given buying advice from their unbiased point of view. Now there's an app for that.

UPDATE: July 10, 2011
This well reviewed app was recently brought to my attention and worthy of noting to help you save money while shopping;

THE FIND
Use this app to scan an item's bar code and immediately comparison shop to find which store has it at the best price. If you see it for a better price elsewhere, you can purchase it elsewhere either by going to that store or buy it on-line.

This list is not an endorsement of any product or app, but intended to be a guideline. Use your own judgment about what works best for you.
